Dying Earth


Global warming crisis had accelerated its severity during the late 21st century, leaving humanity only a last faint breath of their long-lasting civilization. Global temperature had dramatically soared while the amount of dust had grown so much that the air became toxic.


The drastic change in atmosphere corrupted the lands, many places were either dry or drowned. Some countries collapsed; others were merged by the Great Powers into large confederations. Resources being scarce, habitats overcrowded, the war to seize their remnants were inevitable. Various species incapable of adaptation became extinct, and even the most versatile of them all, the humankind, had just little hope to survive.


In The Hope Of Survial


Humanity decided to abandon the old world that was on the verge of its destruction, and tried to search for a new place off-world to flourish. Upon this attempt of survival, the method of implementing cryogenic technology was brought up, but then we realized that it was an immature idea as the problem of energy mining for interstellar still stood unresolved.

The technology needed the expansion of the Helium3 mines on the moon and an absurd amount of the energy from the Earth's core for this expedition. That would only accelerate the death of this fainting planet. In response, humanity looked far beyond the possibility of centuries of hibernation in order to just waking up to a new planet with just our weak inadaptable bodies, unsuitable of the exotic atmosphere of the distant colonies.

We looked further,

For enhancement, for perfection, for immortality, and for eternity. Thus the “C.O.D.E. project” had begun.
 
 
 
 

The C.O.D.E project


Humans overlooked the inferior cryogenics, and reached further to create the digital transcendence, the miracle emergence to overcome the state of physical dependence by deciphering every single human’s mind into a very complex “CODE” and uploading it into a huge digital archive. This library of CODE would not only hold a simple digital data set, but it would contain our history of prosperity, knowledge, memories, sentiments, our essence and souls.


It was a beacon of hope. The hope that humanity can live on, that we might yet be able to flourish and bloom once again on a new planet.


The CODERIAN


In the first phase of C.O.D.E Project, the first set of digital minds in the C.O.D.E archive will be contained in 5000 synthetic bodies, so called “CODERIAN”. These bodies, enhanced with cybernetics and prothesis, will carry out the will of the immortals, of us, the will to live, and the will to prosper.


Although these bodies can deteriorate, the digital “CODE” within them is eternal.


This allows humans to exchange synthesized bodies just by uploading new “CODE” to a new preferred synthetic body. The trading for bodies we fancy began back then, and has become popular among the CODERIANs ever since.


 
 

New Hope Corrupted


After centuries of expedition beyond the stars, upon the arrival at the new colony with only 6,000 initial members, it was easy for “The Council” to govern the estate in a semi-authoritarian regime. Even though the resources on this new planet are abundant to the point it may seem indefinite, only a certain few people from the supreme Council can have access and manipulate them. Corruption grows like spores; council members to seek only power and wealth, bribing military forces and people to their side with the resources they exploit.


The colony is drowned in poverty, and life is difficult as this new hope turns out to be nothing but corruption and disparity. Everybody learns how to survive, how to make fortune, how to get our hands dirty without sympathy.


 
 


Military, police department, big names, influential people, and the councilors turned blind, all bribed, forming the network of the ruthless “Mafia”. Yakuza and mob bosses run their underground business network by the lowly people of the “Undergrounds”, brewing and smuggling psychedelic drugs and illegal holo-tapes, selling them to those who want to escape the tense of reality. They also trade in valuable secrets, cybernetics, and various types of arms. The mafias and yakuza also own the largest prostitute business in the “Red Light” district. Meanwhile, in a small corner of society there are still naturalists, the “Anti-Bot”, preaching, opposing cybernetics implantation on their bodies and skins. On the other side, in the deep darkest alleys where no one frequents, not a single soul knows what the anti-flesh extremists, the “Anti-Human”, are scheming.
